Simple Pleasures of Life
Hi there,
Welcome to the big Swedish culture debate 2020: Is gratitude a luxury item?
The book "Simple pleasures of life: Falling asleep next to a dog and 46 other experiences that make life worth living" has stirred up a debate to whether the journaled simple pleasures of a successful podcaster, influencer and author is poetry or bragging. Is happiness only reserved for the rich and the famous?
The pleasures – slumbering at the beach, escaping the summer heat in a cool church, listening to an orchestra tuning their instruments – are both about being grateful and finding peace in a hectic world. But really it's not the specific pleasures mentioned in the book that matters, what matters is the search of mindful moments – that search is universal and for everyone.
When we bang on about mindfulness it is because we are firm believers mindfulness is for everyone and that mindfulness enhances leadership. It is not just a luxury item for a select few, it is a skill that helps us step away from situations, create awareness and open up new possibilities.
Whether it's practising meditation (join us for our weekly sessions!) or falling asleep next to your dog, or finding some good old sisu (a Finnish word for the psychological strength that allows a person to overcome extraordinary challenges), we all aim for the same outcome – enhancing our abilities to face the extraordinaries of life so we can enjoy more of the simple pleasures of life... we just have different words or techniques to achieve it.
In our next Q&A, we will explore mindfulness further. We are very excited to have our friend Rob Kramer join us on Friday 25 September. Rob is highly experienced in incorporating mindfulness practices in his work and with the research on the impact mindfulness has on leaders.
Rob has been coaching for over 20 years and has been a mindfulness practitioner for almost 30 years. He is the CEO of Kramer Leadership, an executive coaching firm that works with social impact sectors based in the US. He specialises in coaching executives, especially in universities and academic medical centers.
Join us to further your knowledge on mindfulness techniques and how to coach other leaders on how to practice mindfulness.
When: Friday 25 September 09:30 AM GMT +8.
