Overview

Bob Hunter has had a life of varied practical leadership roles across multiple levels of organisations through a significant variety of environments and risk profiles.  With an early working life that saw him formally trained in leadership to then serve for 16 years in the Australian Army, primarily in the SAS as a Troop and Squadron Commander, but also in the Parachute Battalion and as a United Nations military observer in the Middle East (Israel).

During his service with the SAS, Bob was directly involved in all aspects of Australia’s Special Forces - National Counter Terrorism Crisis Management and Response Arrangements.   He also served on operations in Cambodia and Bougainville.  Bob was the Squadron Commander of the SAS unit involved in the tragic Blackhawk accident in 1996, and responsible for the immediate recovery of the unit post this tragic accident.   

On finishing his military career Bob successfully co-founded and managed for 13 years a diverse and successful International Risk Management consulting business, OAM, now Osprey International.    Bob has now transitioned into Leadership development and coaching for the last 12 years, which also included a 5-year term as the General Manager and CEO of Rugby WA.     

Experience in resource sector environment

Bob’s strength as a facilitator and coach is based on his extensive range of personal experience in multiple resource sector environments.   While operating his commercial security risk management business, there were numerous resource sector clients across Australia, SE Asia. Middle East and Africa that required expertise and support in delivering courses and in house capability building and skills development for both all levels of resource sector operations, including safety and security risk management.  In leadership, coaching and individual team development environments, Bob has worked from the front line leadership to all levels of leadership across multiple resource sector environments including; underground, open cut, processing, refinery and general camp and site operations.

Strengths in delivery:

Bob is able to add depth to his extensive understanding of leadership theory and models by bringing in his experience across multiple environments ranging from his early military life, through consulting in risk and security management, and a variety of mining and resource sector operations over diverse environments and organisations.

He is able to translate a significant range of academic and organisational behavioural leadership theories and models to real life and practical habits and behaviours through the use of practical examples and experiences that highlight how individuals and teams can best manage challenges and opportunity.  

Education:

· Graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon, and University of NSW, BA Mil.

· On graduation was awarded a number of leadership prizes including the Sword of Honour.  

· Masters in Business Administration from the Curtin University

· Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  

· A range of vocational qualifications including Graduate Diploma’s in Business, Personnel and Resource Management, Operations Management (Security), Survival and Rescue Management, and Cert IV Workplace Trainer.
