Ryan is a dynamic and innovative risk management professional with over 20 years of experience in team-building and organisational leadership. He has a strong background as a highly successful, top-ranked performer with a history of accomplishments leading elite organisations and complex programs. Ryan is an intelligent, resilient, and astute leader experienced at optimising teams, leading and managing diverse and international relationships, and leveraging technology. Of particular note, Ryan has deep experience in working in multi-agency and stakeholder environments, including in the development and analysis of human terrain networks.
Background
Ryan’s first career was in the US Army, where he served predominantly within Special Operations Command. With extensive experience as an infantry and intelligence officer, Ryan has served with the 75th Ranger Regiment, as a Deputy Director within the 4th Infantry Division and, most recently, as the Director of Communications / Operations within the Joint Special Operations Command. He has also served on exchange as the Deputy Director of the United Kingdom’s Defence Intelligence Security Centre.
Throughout his military career, Ryan successfully led the US’s most elite soldiers at every level from platoon to squadron in some of the most arduous locations, including extensive periods in Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, KSA, the African Sahel, Western and Eastern Europe. Ryan’s role was to lead multiple elite teams in these dynamic environments reducing threats and risk, crisis management, building teams and capacity with the local security force, and to develop, implement, and achieve US and strategic partner strategies. These experiences have provided him a thorough understanding of geopolitics, culture and risk drivers, as well as the ability to negotiate complex sets of stakeholders to achieve strategic aims.
