How to make stress your friend

Part of self-management is building our resilience and managing stress.

In psychology, resilience is the positive capacity of people to cope with stress and adversity. This coping may result in the individual ‘bouncing back’ to a previous state of normal functioning, or using the experience of exposure to adversity to produce a ‘steeling effect’ and function better than expected. Resilience is most commonly understood as a process, and not a trait of an individual.

In this TED talk by Kelly McGonigal, we learn that the way we view stress is just as powerful as the stressors themselves. You’ll need to set aside around 15 minutes to view this.

Think about your own perspective on stress. How can you “make stress your friend”?
